About Clare

About Clare

After graduating from University, Clare started her working life in the field of therapeutic programmes for prisoners who were recovering from addictions.

Clare managed a team who developed and piloted the first Cognitive Behavioural Therapy programme for Young Offenders in prison. The team went on to be nominated for a National Award for this work in 2004 and then won the award in 2005 for it’s contribution to work with female offenders.

At this time, Clare felt called to a career in Counselling, having recognised the importance of this work in her therapeutic work experience. Clare started her professional BACP accredited training in Integrative Counselling in 2005, graduating in 2009.

Following on from this, Clare worked for the National Probation Service, helping in the rehabilitation of offenders and supporting those who were victims of crime to feel safe and recover emotionally from their experiences.

For the past 14 years Clare has specialised in supporting the survivors of domestic abuse related crime to rebuild their lives and find emotional and psychological peace in the aftermath of their experiences.

More recently, Clare has completed training and facilitated emotional well-being courses in her local church for the charity, ‘Kintsugi Hope’.

Clare has recently completed a two year period of theological study with Chelmsford Diocese and has a special interest in incorporating animal assisted therapies into her work.

Clare is a busy working mum who aims to serve the church and her community as well as she can alongside her family. She understands and lives the challenges of raising children within a Christian home and all the joy and conflicts that can arise as a result!

Clare's personal faith journey alongside her work and life experience, led to her arrival at a place where she felt that in good conscience, she couldn’t continue to offer therapeutic support without the inclusion of the firm foundations for life that we find in scripture and our relationship with God.

This is the ethos behind River of Life Christian Counselling.
