Biblical Counselling

Open Bible

We all struggle with similar feelings and needs such as the need to belong, to feel safe, to feel accepted and loved. When these needs are not met, we find ourselves struggling and we try to resolve the pain and confusion in any way we can. Sometimes the options we choose to stop the discomfort aren’t actually very helpful at all and then we may need a counsellor or other professional to help us to make sense out of our situation and change our circumstances for the better.

If you believe in God, it may not be as helpful to see a counsellor who doesn't share your faith.

Christian beliefs and the guidance we find in scripture not only shape who we are, the decisions we make, the relationships we seek and the purposes and meaning we find in life, they also help us to manage our emotions, to recognise and move away from destructive behaviours and to find an everlasting peace that is beyond our understanding.

‘All scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work’

2 Timothy 3:16

I am a partner of the Biblical Counselling Coalition so, as such, I align my core convictions and beliefs with their Confessional and Doctrinal statements which can be downloaded from www.biblicalcounselingcoalition.org/partner-with-us/

As an example, some of the fundamental guidance for Biblical Counselling in the Confessional Statement defines Biblical Counselling as being:

  • Anchored in Scripture
  • Grounded in Sound Theology
  • Founded in Love
  • Practical and Relevant
  • Thorough in Care

‘His candle shineth upon my head, and by his light I walk through darkness.’

Job 29:3
